We recently emailed out the July 2008 Newsletter. If you didn't get it and want to have a read, you can see it here.

New Website in the works

We are currently working on a new website. This site will remain online until the completion of the new site. The content will remain but is outdated.

Stawamus Chief Film Project

A film project is under way at the Grand Wall boulders, through to November 18th. The crew is using part of the tourist viewpoint parking lot, and is filming in the area of Easy in an Easy Chair and Superfly. They will not be working on weekends or November 11th. Special effects include a fog generator (!). The company has been cautioned to expect climbers in the event of any dry weather.

Smoke Bluffs Adopt a Crag

The September 10th event went very well. 31 participated, and helped with spreading gravel, building and reinforcing trails, clean up, and placing sign posts. The volunteers included Mayor Ian Sutherland, and councillors Ray Peters and Sonja Lebans.

This was the Access Society's eighth Adopt-a-Crag volunteer day in 2005. Trail work, community building, clean up, and fun. More...

Sea to Sky Highway Improvement Project

Plans for the project are nearly complete. The main outstanding issue is the alignment of the highway in front of the Stawamus Chief, and the nature of the interchange there. Otherwise, our focus will now shift to implementation, in particular pro-active communication with contractors and managers as the project proceeds. Considerable restoration work has been done at the Gorge (StarChek), and a new access trail for the Papoose has been built. More…

The Land Conservancy of B.C.

TLC now owns the gravel pit between Stawamus Chief and Shannon Falls Provincial Parks, which was to have been the base station for the proposed tourist gondola. Our thanks to TLC for this key acquisition. The gravel pit will be leased to the highway project for the next four years, for use as headquarters, and for storing equipment and supplies. In the meantime, plans can be made for the longer term disposition of the land. TLC is also working on other strategic land acquisitions in this area. Information about TLC, and how to join or donate, is at www.conservancy.bc.ca.

Donations and Thank Yous

We recently received grants of $2,700 from Mountain Equipment Co-op (North Vancouver), for work at the Smoke Bluffs, and $1,500 from the Alpine Club of Canada (Vancouver Section), for work at Conroy Creek (Cheak). More thank yous…
